CES 2026: AI becomes the foundation of the auto industry. Discover Mercedes MB.OS, Sony-Honda Afeela with Microsoft AI, and new software-defined cars from BMW and Ford.

CES 2026 demonstrated a sharp acceleration in the adoption of artificial intelligence across the automotive industry. Carmakers are increasingly viewing AI not as an optional feature, but as the foundation of future vehicles. The focus has clearly shifted from hardware-centric solutions to software, centralized computing platforms, and integrated service ecosystems.
Mercedes-Benz showcased the further development of its MB.OS operating system, which will control infotainment, driver-assistance, and safety systems within a unified digital architecture. The platform is designed for scalability and regular over-the-air updates, allowing new functions to be added without any physical modifications to the vehicle.

Sony Honda Mobility presented the Afeela Prototype 2026, featuring a full-scale AI assistant deeply integrated with Microsoft’s cloud services. The system analyzes driver behavior and adapts interior settings, navigation, and multimedia preferences, while also interacting with external digital services and smart ecosystems.
BMW and Ford emphasized next-generation voice AI systems capable of maintaining contextual dialogue and controlling vehicle functions without rigid command structures. At the same time, technology suppliers such as Bosch and Qualcomm introduced centralized AI platforms for ADAS and autonomous driving, specifically designed for large-scale, mass-market implementation.
CES 2026 confirmed a clear industry shift: the car of the future is increasingly a software-defined product, with artificial intelligence emerging as one of the key pillars of competitiveness.
